WATERWORK: Water Quality Solutions
A private approach to getting our water as clean as it can be.
When it comes right down to it, there are only two ways that agricultural landowners can impact the quality of water in our streams.
One has to do with nutrients or chemicals entering the stream, and the other has to do with the condition of the stream channel itself, mainly with regard to vegetation on the streambanks, which can keep the water cool, hold sediments in place, and filter nutrients from the uplands.
In either case, the solutions to these problems are very often both straightforward and inexpensive, and can result in economic benefits as well as ecological ones.
So why hasn't more of this work been done?
I can't think of any good reasons. I can think of a few bad ones, but in the end what matters is getting the work done, and that's what the Waterwork program is all about.
With help from a team of independent experts, KBEF can help put together a comprehensive water quality improvement strategy for any land-based agricultural operation. We can also help with funding and implementation of planned improvements.
